More and More Men Are Having Plastic Surgery

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has released their plastic surgery statistics for 2010.  The number of men having plastic surgery has increased 2%, but even more important, the procedures that showed the highest increase in males are surgical procedures, like facelifts (up 14%) and liposuction (up 7%).  The baby boomers could very well be fueling this trend.  This group has recently seen their 401K’s go into the toilet, so many of them may not have felt financially secure enough to make a several thousand dollar investment in plastic surgery.  Now that the stock market has rebounded, these baby boomers may feel they have enough disposable income to pay for the surgery they may have wanted these past several years.

I’ve definitely seen the numbers of men considering plastic surgery steadily increasing, although they still make up only 10% of my patient base.  I assume this number will increase as the baby boomers continue to age and our plastic surgery procedures continue to improve.

Note: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the largest group of real, board-certified plastic surgeons in the country.  Make sure your plastic surgeon is a member.
