Bogus Tummy Tucks
Have you heard a doctor advertise his own special, trademarked tummy tuck on the radio?
I have. Many times, on many different stations, in many different cities.
Here’s the truth: The vast majority of them are just marketing gimmicks.
What many unscrupulous doctors do is to combine a mini tummy tuck, where the skin and fat is removed from above the pubic area but not up to the belly button, with aggressive liposuction of the remainder of the abdomen, waist, and hips. They give this operation a special name and market it as a better alternative to the longer scar, traditional full tummy tuck.
Well, any plastic surgeon can do this operation, and many of us do. The reason why doctors like myself don’t advertise this as some great, new procedure is because: (1) it isn’t, and (2) the results aren’t that great. It really must be done on a very select patient that can benefit from it.
So don’t fall for the marketing. In most cases these bogus, fancy-named tummy tucks aren’t better than a traditional tummy tuck with a hip-to-hip scar and a scar around the belly button.
In fact, they’re usually much worse.
For these reasons, Bogus Tummy Tucks are on my Holistic Beauty Blacklist.
