My Thoughts on our Choices Today

I recently received the Covid vaccine. I know there is a lot of concern, questions, and unease about this vaccine due to how quickly it went through the FDA pipeline. So I thought I’d take a little time to share with you my thoughts, and why I decided that getting the vaccine was in my best interests and the best interests of my family and patients.

Overall, I believe in 2021 we have three options of how to live:

Option 1 is to get vaccinated and hopefully get our lives back to normal as soon as possible. Yes, there are concerns with the vaccine, including allergic reactions and the fact that it is not 100% effective. However, I firmly believe it is our best shot (pun not intended) at getting back to normal life safely and in good health.

Option 2 is to self quarantine and wait for herd immunity which could take another year or longer. Essentially many of us have been doing this for the past ten months and are getting tired of it.

And Option 3 is to eventually catch the virus and possibly do fine, possibly get sick, possibly die, and possibly get others sick who could die. I know there are many people who become asymptomatic or have few symptoms. But there are also the long haulers, the ones who narrowly escape hospitalization, and the ones who don’t make it. The latter includes three of my friends’ fathers and one prominent, previously healthy 50 year old facial plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. Please don’t believe people when they say this virus is the flu. It is just not true.

So for me, Option 1 is the one that makes the most sense for me, my family, my patients, and my community. If I am going to treat patients, I don’t want there to be any chance I will get a single one of them sick.

So this is how I see our options today. You may disagree with my assessment, and that’s ok. I would never say that I’m an expert in the pandemic, but a doctor who is just trying to do what I believe is the right and best way.

Thank you to all the scientists, doctors, and support staff who made this vaccine possible. And thank you to all the frontline healthcare workers who are saving lives. You are all the true heroes.

Here are the latest episodes of my podcast, The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show. Please SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss a single information-packed show!

Episode #221– How to Reset Your Thyroid by Changing Your Diet with Dr. Alan Christianson – Thyroid disease is a major issue in the United States. An estimated 20 million Americans suffer from thyroid disease, and up to 60% of them are unaware that they even have it.

Scientists and doctors are now finding that the key to thyroid health just might lie in a simple chemical – iodine!

I’m joined by one of the country’s most prominent naturopathic endocrinologists who has just written a book called “The Thyroid Reset Diet.” He’s discovered that the key to thyroid health- whether you are hypothyroid, have Hashimoto’s, or other thyroid issues- lies in your exposure to iodine.

Episode #220- Playing “Would You Rather” with Dermatologist Dr. Dustin Portela – I decided to change things up a little bit on this week’s episode. Instead of a traditional style interview, I thought it’d be fun to play a game of Would You Rather with a dermatologist friend of mine.

Would you rather have too much Botox or too much filler? Would you rather have to treat a Real Housewife or a Kardashian? Would you rather be addicted to topical steroids or lip balm?

I have a ton of these, and we’ll both answer them, so you’ll see where a dermatologist compares to a holistic plastic surgeon. It’s a fun but educational episode.
