Avoid These At All Costs

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed yours and are staying warm during this crazy cold spell across the country. While I was walking my dogs tonight (both dressed in their coats), I came up with an interesting idea to send you. Here is a list of my “Avoid At All Costs” for holistic plastic surgery:

Food: Vegetable Oils such as soybean oil, corn oil, and canola oil– These oils have high levels of unhealthy omega-6 fatty acids, increase inflammation in the body, and are often made with GMO. Instead, opt for organic olive oil (as a dressing, but don’t cook with it) or avocado oil.

Drink: Energy Drinks – A study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that energy drinks can alter the QT interval of the heart (which may lead to an abnormal heart beat) and raise blood pressure for over 6 hours after the beverage is consumed. If you have heart issues, stay away from these terrible drinks!

Non-Invasive Treatment: Thermage – Thermage became popular about a dozen years ago. The problem with the treatment (in addition to the little change it created) was that some patients developed fat loss from it. In my opinion, there are other, better options now.

Filler: Bellafill – Although this filler is FDA-approved, I don’t recommend it for any of my patients. I have seen some serious complications with permanent and near-permanent fillers that can only be solved by invasive operations. Stick with the hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane for safer results.

Surgery: Permanent Lip Implants – Ever wondered what it feels like to kiss a spare tire? If so, then try kissing someone with a permanent lip implant! These never look very natural, and usually end up being removed. Stick with a filler like Juvederm or fat injections for a better outcome.

Final Tip: Avoid any doctor masquerading as a real plastic surgeon. Make sure he or she is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Don’t settle for less!
