An interesting article in the Washington Post describes how teenage girls in North Korea dream about having the double eyelid surgery that is so prominent in South Korea. They desire it so much that they go under the knife in a black-market procedure, paying $2-$3 for a doctor to perform the surgery, often right in the patient’s home. Just as sad, North Korea is so poor that $2 is a large amount of money for most North Koreans.
