Is Plastic Surgery An Answer To Bullying?

ABC News has recently reported on a seven year old who is planning to have plastic surgery (otoplasty – ear pinback) as a way to prevent bullying. Her mother, an assistant principal at a school in Long Island, believes that plastic surgery could be a solution to her bullying problems. You can read the story here.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (of which I am a member), the number of children and teens having cosmetic plastic surgery has increased 30% over the past decade, a startling and disturbing trend.
So what do I think about plastic surgery as an answer to bullying? I have a lot of thoughts on this, and plan to share them in a special segment on Fox and Friends this Saturday, April 9th at approximately 7:20 am EDT. I will be discussing this issue with one of the top plastic surgeons in New York. I hope you get to tune in!
