The Newest, Proven Anti-Aging Diet
- Posted on: Nov 7 2018
Have you heard of the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD)? It’s currently all the rage in holistic health circles.
Scientific studies have shown that fasting can result in major anti-aging benefits by promoting autophagy. Autophagy is the process where damaged cell components are replaced with newly generated, functional ones from activated stem cells.
It’s like an old fashioned, wood-burning steam locomotive. When it runs out of wood to burn, the first thing that the engineer does to keep it running is to burn all the damaged wood products, like broken chairs and tables. Only after the damaged wood is gone does the engineer progress to burning the good wood.
Our damaged, even potentially cancerous, cells are like the damaged wood. These cells are consumed first during autophagy.
So how long do you have to fast to promote real autophagy? Unfortunately, longer than most of us are willing to endure.
Hence, the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD). This is a 100% plant-based, five day calorie-restricted diet composed of foods carefully chosen to trick your body into thinking that it’s fasting. It was created by Dr. Valter Longo, the Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California.
The FMD has been shown to increase stem cell production and autophagy, shift the body into fat burning mode, and reduce cholesterol and triglycerides. Your body acts like it’s fasting, but in reality you’re not.
I completed the FMD several weeks ago and lost seven pounds during the five day course. I know of others who have lost anywhere from 5-11 lbs during their first FMD course.
Check out my podcast from last week with my good friend Dr. Mariza Snyder. We discuss our experiences with the FMD and explain why her experience was much different than mine! You can download it by clicking HERE for Apple devices or HERE for Android.

Episode #110– A Mind-Body-Spirit-Skin Care Approach to Youthful and Healthy Skin with Integrative Dermatologist Dr. Michelle Jeffries– We’re learning that the health of our skin and how quickly it ages is impacted by diet, stress, and more. Therefore, focusing on a holistic approach is the ideal path to youthful and healthy skin.
My guest this episode is an integrative dermatologist who has championed this. She has created a mind-body-spirit-skincare approach to treating skin which extends beyond the traditional dermatological options. On this episode we’ll do a deep dive into how this approach works and improves adult acne, and make recommendations of what non-toxic skin care products you can use to get you there.
Episode #109 – The Fasting Mimicking Diet, Essential Oils, and More with Dr. Mariza Snyder – The Fasting Mimicking Diet is a five day diet utilizes very carefully chosen foods in a limited calorie fashion to make your body believe it is fasting. The Fasting Mimicking Diet has been scientifically supported to help aid longevity, fight disease, reduce weight, and even potentially fight cancer.
On this episode, I’m joined by functional medicine doc Dr. Mariza Snyder. We will start a new one-episode-a-month series where the two of us cover various hot topics in health, medicine, and cosmetic treatments.
