Patients ask me all the time, “What actually works to tighten skin?” There are a lot of creams and treatments that claim to make skin tighter. Here’s what actually works!
Retinol – In general, creams are pretty poor at actually tightening skin. They can increase collagen production, smooth fine lines, and fade age spots well, but tightening isn’t usually all that impressive. But if any cream can do it, it’s a retinoid, either prescription strength tretinoin or over-the-counter retinol, like YOUN Beauty Retinol Moisturizer.
XERF and Sofwave – These non-invasive treatments use radiofrequency waves or ultrasound energy (respectively) to heat the deep skin and cause it to mildly tighten. I’ve not used them before, but practitioners claim they work. Unlike the treatments below, they cause zero pain and have no downtime. But how well do they work? I’ll let you know more as I hear reviews come in!
Fractional Laser – These procedures are the most versatile of all options, as fractional laser treatments tighten skin, improve texture, smooth wrinkles, fade age spots, and reduce the appearance of pores- all in one treatment! Morpheus8 Radiofrequency Microneedling – The gold standard for non-invasive skin tightening, Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency deep heating to result in tighter skin. My aesthetician treats my lower face and neck every 6 months to prevent sagging. Numbing creams work well to make the procedure very tolerable.
